Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Florida Oral & Facial Surgical Associates offers eyelid surgery to patients in Daytona Beach, Palm Coast, New Smyrna Beach, Titusville, Deltona, Port Orange and Ormond Beach, FL.

As we all know, the eyes are a prominent facet of the human face. Although the eyes are expressionless structures, the surrounding skin conveys emotion. The tissue, muscle, fat, hair and lashes all contribute to the wide array of expressions. Unfortunately, wrinkles and deep lines, as well as puffiness under the lids, develop as you age. Fortunately, our doctors are highly trained and experienced with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). This procedure removes fat and excess skin from the upper and lower eyelids, and can be done alone or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures, such as a facelift or brow lift.

We suggest browsing some eyelid surgery before and after pictures to determine whether or not this procedure is right for you. In the meantime, our staff is available any time to give you additional information, including eyelid surgery costs.

How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

There are two different types of blepharoplasty – upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery. These procedures can be performed separately or together, depending on the goals of the patient. For the upper eyelids, an incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid and excess skin and fat are removed.

Lower eyelid surgery, on the other hand, involves an incision either at the lash line or inside the eyelids. Excess fat is then removed from that part of the eye to improve under-eye puffiness. Both types of eyelid surgery are performed using local or general anesthesia.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Exposure to the sun as well as hereditary factors contribute to the aging process, all resulting in changes of expression. In many cases, people may look fatigued and worn out, and older than their true age. Beyond possible visual impairment, these changes in your appearance can cause stress and anxiety. And if you're experiencing any of these signs, you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery. In addition, we see both men and women come into our office for blepharoplasty.

What Kind of Post-Operative Eyelid Surgery Care Can I Expect?

Following your eyelid surgery, you'll experience some swelling and bruising. To reduce this, you should apply cold compresses to the treatment area. Other normal side effects include tearing, blurred vision and sensitivity to light, which should dissipate within a few weeks. It's also important to keep your head elevated at all times, even when you're sleeping.

Your doctor may advise you to refrain from wearing makeup or contact lenses for at least two weeks following the procedure. You'll be prescribed eye drops to treat any itching, burning or dryness, and your doctor will go over specific instructions on how to properly care for your eyes. Finally, try to avoid the sun, and refrain from driving or any strenuous physical activity until your vision has completely returned to normal.

What are the Typical Results of Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery can effectively get rid of bags, wrinkles and under-eye puffiness, turning aged, tired-looking eyes into bright, youthful and refreshed ones. As you'll see throughout these eyelid surgery before and after pictures, patients are left with a younger-looking and rejuvenated appearance that they are proud to show off.

What are Eyelid Surgery Costs?

Depending on the procedure you choose, eyelid surgery prices may vary. That's why we recommend setting up a consultation with one of our highly trained and professional doctors, who will discuss all your options and goals with you and give you a more accurate estimate of the price based upon what you want.
